Chairperson

Mr. John Kelleher Jr. '97

John Kelleher graduated from St. John Bosco High School in 1997. He finished fourth in his class.
Mr. Kelleher received his bachelor of arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He also served in student government there, holding a position on the Associated Students Finance Board.

He began his career at Walt Disney Studios, moving on to work on the feature film Donnie Darko. He met his future wife working at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. His subsequent positions at NBC included Primetime Series Development and NBCU Cable Networks.

Mr. Kelleher currently oversees his family's business and writes comedy in the entertainment industry. He lives in Pasadena with his wife, Kelly, who is an account executive for NBC's Oxygen Network.

Secretary/Education Committee Chair

Mr. Joseph A. Walsh II

Joe Walsh received a B.S. degree, with honors, in Nautical Science from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York in 1983. Upon graduation, he served on active duty in the surface force of the United States Navy. With more than 26 years of continued service on active duty and reserve tours, he retired with the rank of Captain from the U.S. Navy in November 2009. Capt. Walsh was also licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard to serve as Master (1600 GT) and Second Mate (Unlimited) onboard commercial vessels. He received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Arizona in 1989, and is an active member of the California Bar.
Mr. Walsh associated with the law firm of Keesal, Young & Logan in 1989 and became a shareholder in 1998. His practice focuses primarily on maritime and environmental matters including oil and chemical pollution, casualty investigation and crisis response. He has tried pollution cases along with general maritime and admiralty law matters including claims for cargo damage, personal injury, and vessel damage. Mr. Walsh has served as lead counsel for responsible parties in unified command activities, third-party claims, natural resource damage assessments and enforcement actions. He has led internal investigations, audits and implementations of environmental compliance programs in defense of regional, state and federal investigations and criminal enforcement matters. Mr. Walsh is responsible for the firm-wide education and training of Keesal, Young & Logan's environmental and maritime attorneys who are assigned to respond to maritime disasters and environmental emergencies. He has written published articles and speaks on pollution matters in national and international forums. Mr. Walsh is a Proctor in Admiralty in the Maritime Law Association of the United States. He has been recognized on multiple occasions for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, and similarly listed by Chambers USA and The International Who’s Who Legal of Shipping & Maritime Lawyers.
Mr. Walsh serves on the Board of Governors for the Port of Los Angeles-Long Beach, The Propeller Club of the United States. He is a member of the American Legion, and a life member in both the Reserve Officers Association and the Association of the U.S. Navy. An Eagle Scout himself, he is the proud father of two Eagle Scout sons, Tres (SJB '07) and Ryan (SJB '10), and has served in various executive and scouter positions with the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. David Lira '79

David R. Lira of Girardi & Keese is a trial lawyer with an emphasis in product liability, insurance bad faith general negligence, wrongful death, and commercial litigations on behalf of Plaintiffs. An advocate of trial by jury, Mr. Lira has obtained multi-million outcomes against such diverse companies as Ford Motor Company, Isuzu Motor Company, Chevron U.S.A., Inc., General Motors Corp., Vis Rent-A-Car, Truck Insurance Co., and DaimlerChrysler Corp. These include a $45.5 million verdict against Ford Motor Company for a defective seatbelt; a $30 million settlement against an insurance park for a ride causing traumatic brain injuries to a woman; and a $7.9 million settlement in a defective air bag case causing brain injuries to a child, to name a few. Mr. Lira’s accomplishments have been recognized by the legal profession’s leading publications and organizations. Mr. Lira is a member of the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and invitation-only worldwide organization limited to 500 trial lawyers. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Mr. Lira was named by Lawdragon Magazine to its inaugal list of “The 500 Leading Litigators in America” and its list of “The 500 Leading Plaintiff’s Lawyers in America.” He has also been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in Los Angeles Magazine in its 2004-2009 editions. The Consumer Attorneys of California organization selected Mr. Lira as a finalist for “Trial Lawyer of the Year” in 2004. He earned a similar recognition from The Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles in 2006. Mr. Lira received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (1983) and his law degree from Boston College (1986).

Mr. Jeff Spinelli

Jeff Spinelli works as a Regional Manager of Bixby Knolls, East Long Beach, Los Altos and Rossmoor Farmers & Merchants Bank (F&M) offices. Spinelli started as a Teller and now has the privilege of being a Regional Manager. Spinelli is also a member and president of Advantage Certified Development Corporation, a member of the YMCA audit committee and the Community Development Financial Institutions-Loan Committee.

Twenty-six years of banking experience has enabled Spinelli to play an instrumental role in F&M’s growth and, more importantly, assist people with their banking needs. Helping people is what motivates him every day. His fondest memories with F&M are working with local small businesses and creating long-term relationships with every new customer that walks in the door.

Mr. Mike Lansing

Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor

Born and raised in San Pedro, Mike Lansing has been committed to the expansion of quality youth programs and facilities his entire adult life. Mike started teaching and coaching youth at the age of twenty and continued in that profession for eighteen years. In 1988, Mike founded the San Pedro Youth Coalition, a volunteer non-profit agency that promotes youth issues and sponsors youth development programs. Mike served as president of this organization for its first seven years, returned as president in 2001 and retired from the board in 2003. The Youth Coalition he founded still thrives today.

In 1995, Mike became executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Pedro. Mike is an alumnus of the Club and also served on its Board of Directors for three years. Since he has taken the leadership staff position of the organization, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Pedro has seen tremendous growth. Capital expansion of over $8,000,000 included two new computer labs, a Family & Youth Counseling Center, 2 new Teen Centers, an education center, operation of a recreation center, public housing center serving 600 public housing families and the fully modernized Wilmington Boys & Girls Club. In addition, Mike led the initiative to merge the San Pedro and Wilmington Boys & Girls Clubs into one stronger organization – the merger was completed in 2004. The resulting Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor (BGCLAH) now operates “fifteen” program sites in these two communities including eleven school sites. Attendance growth is evidenced by 175 members attending the Club each day in 1995 to over 2100 youth attending daily in 2014. Budget/capacity growth is exhibited by a $270,000 operating budget in 1995 growing to $6 million for 2014-2015.

In 1999, Mike was also elected to serve on the Board of Education of the Los Angeles Unified School District representing District 7. Besides served as the Chairman of the important Facilities committee which is oversaw the construction of over 80 new schools within Los Angeles, Mike initiated many new programs for his district over his eight years in office including the District 7 Grants Program, the District 7 STAR Awards, the Future Leaders of Los Angeles Awards and Community Development Block Grant projects at three of his high schools. In addition, Mike began a Library Initiative in coordination with the Wonder of Reading Foundation. During his tenure, 52 of Mike’s schools received new library facilities valued at over $2 million and nearly $500,000 of new library books. Mike also spearheaded a major facility addition at each of his seven high schools at a value of over $20 million. Mike was re-elected to the LAUSD Board of Education in 2003 and retired from the Board in July 2007.

Mike is a graduate of San Pedro High School (1974) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance from California State University,Long Beach. He received his California Teaching Credential and Master of Arts in School Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Mike continues to reside in San Pedro. His daughter Jamie and grandsons Drew and Parker also live in the South Bay area.

Mr. Stephen W. Fillett

Mr. Fillet's business activities include 20+ years of commercial, corporate, merchant and investment banking working with Fortune and Global 500 companies as well as micro and mid cap public and private companies both in the United States and abroad. Mr. Fillet’s industry expertise includes technology and telecom, based on his initial work experience in the Sales and Systems Engineering Department of IBM and his founding of a software company for which he won a major national entrepreneurship award and which he built and later sold.

As a bank officer in the Corporate Banking Department of Bank of America in Los Angeles, Mr. Fillet’s portfolio companies consisted of many local middle market companies as well as many of the most marquis corporate and entertainment/media names of Southern California, each with individual commitments in the ten to one hundred million dollar range.

As an officer at BNP Paribas, Mr. Fillet worked in the Multi-National Corporate Department, performing analysis and underwriting, both as sole lender and as lead and co-syndicate member, for many of the world’s largest conglomerates across all industry sectors.In recognition of his fine work, Mr. Fillet quickly earned a promotion to the Leveraged Finance Group, where he worked in support of corporate acquisitions, on behalf of both financial and strategic acquirers, in the context of transactions involving consideration ranging from $100 million to $1 billion.After this, Mr. Fillet became a founding member of the Principal Investing Group, where he identified targets, prepared analyses, pitched, processed and arranged financing on behalf of acquisitions involving his firm as principal/stakeholder.The capstone of this effort resulted in the acquisition and taking private of a publicly-traded company with total capital deployed of greater than $100 million and equity financing provided by the predecessor to the current day Carlisle Group.

In the investment banking world, Mr. Fillet has served as a senior professional at Oppenheimer, Cruttenden Roth, CIBC and Roth Capital Partners. In his various capacities at these entities, Mr. Fillet was responsible for the closing of over 100 deals involving all levels of the capital structure, including private and public equity

Mr. Fillet is presently the Managing Partner of Jesteda Partners, a diversified merchant banking firm engaged, as both agent and principal, in corporate finance and merger and acquisition transactions as well as an active trading operation which facilitates the sale, purchase, financing and movement of physical commodities around the world.


Mr. Mario Guerra

Mayor Mario A. Guerra is the Co-Founded Scanlon-Guerra-Burke Insurance Brokers ( SGB-NIA ) and has been President of the firm. His firm was recently named one of the Top 10 largest brokerage firms in Southern California by the Los Angeles Business Journal. They were also named as one of the Top 100 Brokers in the United States. He obtained the Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) designation in 1990.

He has been honored as" Agent of the Year” by several trade organizations and he also received a lifetime service award from his peers and Insurance Journal magazine for his commitment and dedication to his industry.

He was ordained a Deacon, a member of the clergy, in the Catholic Church by Cardinal Mahony in 2002. He currently serves as Chaplain of the Downey Police Department and is a member of the International Conference of Police Chaplains. He was called and served in New Orleans and Houston after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

He serves in ministry at Saint Linus Catholic Church and as a stational Deacon at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels. He and his wife Ann are co-founders of Angel Tree for Downey which last year served over 275 children during the holidays. They also founded the Diakonia Foundation which gives scholarships to local High School kids for community service and outreach to others.

As Mayor he started and served as Chairman of Downey’s Green Task Force. He is proud to have promoted our city’s culture to bring economic development to Downey. Downey was one of the finalists for Most Business Friendly City several times. He is proud of helping to create over 6000 new jobs in Downey over the past 4 years. And he helped lead Downey to become a Character Counts community.

He has helped facilitated the revitalization and planning of Downtown Downey and has served on this vital sub-committee since he was first elected. He was instrumental in starting a Farmers Market in Downtown Downey. He believes that community involvement makes a difference and attended over 120 of the new neighborhood watch groups started in Downey in the past 3 years.

Mario, his wife Ann, and their five children have proudly made Downey their home for over 35 years.

Mr. Steve Vicencia '73

Steve Vicencia has been a licensed insurance agent/broker for over 29 years. He is President of Vicencia & Buckley Insurance Services, Inc., and is a licensed fire & casualty agent, broker, and surplus lines broker. Vicencia obtained the designation Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1988, which is widely acknowledged to be the highest professional designation in the industry. Prior to entering the insurance business, Vicencia worked as Sales Manager for the Southland Corporation.

Vicencia has served as President of the Cerritos Chamber of Commerce, which honored him as “Business Person of the Year” in 2004. He has also served as President of the Mid Cities Chapter of Independent Insurance Agents, and was the organization’s “Agent of the Year” in 1987. In 2009 he was awarded the Doug Paddleford Memorial Award for outstanding community service. As a certified SCUBA Diver, Vicencia has participated in risk management seminars at the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association Trade Show. He has also authored several insurance articles and has conducted workshops on workers compensation experience rating.

Vicencia was appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Insurance by Supervisor Don Knabe in 2005.

Born and raised in Southeast Los Angeles County, Vicencia graduated from St. John Bosco High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from San Diego State University in 1977.

Mr. R Scott Jenkins

R. Scott Jenkins has been a Regional President since October 2006 when IBP acquired OJ Insulation, Inc., which he co-founded in 1984. During his 22 year tenure at OJ Insulation, as owner and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jenkins was responsible for numerous strategic acquisitions and significant company growth. Since joining IBP, Mr. Jenkins has taken on the management of operations in certain key states, including Colorado, Washington, Oregon and California. Mr. Jenkins received a B.A. in Social Science from the University of California at Irvine and has been an active member of Vistage International CEO Organization since 2003.

Scott and his wife CeeCee are loyal contributors to St. John Bosco High School, participating in the school’s major events as lead sponsors for nearly twenty years. Their four sons, Griff (’98), Adam (’00), Daniel (’05), and Dennis (’05) all attended St. John Bosco High School.Scott and CeeCee continue to dedicate themselves to the mission of St. John Bosco as alumni parents as volunteer leaders and contributors. Scott and CeeCee reside in Long Beach.

Mr. Brian T. Kennedy '79

Brian T. Kennedy is President of the American Strategy Group, a think tank dedicated to understanding the strategic threats to the United States. Mr. Kennedy is also a board member and senior fellow of the Claremont Institute where he served as president from 2002 to 2015. During his 25-year tenure at the Claremont Institute, he directed their Golden State Center in Sacramento, their National Security Project, and served as publisher of the Claremont Review of Books.
Mr. Kennedy is a member of the Independent Working Group on Missile Defense and is a co-author ofShariah: The Threat to America. His articles on national security affairs and public policy issues have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, National Review, Investor's Business Daily, and Hillsdale College’sImprimis. Mr. Kennedy is a native Californian and a graduate of Claremont McKenna College.
