Mr. Jack Hastert

It was a rough week as our lack of depth showed. We had a number of players who could not make matches due to illness and other reasons and it really hurt us this week. But we did have some bright spots and we are continuing to both enjoy the sport and improve.

Monday, 3/13:

Varsity: vs. Poly at Los Coyotes – Poly – 202 SJB – 239

Poly had one player shoot a one under par 34 and they were too strong for us this match. Marcus had his lowest score so far this season at Los Coyotes and Ivan was our 2nd low.

Aguilar, Bernal, Cabot, Flores, Kennedy, Marshall, Munoz Alternate: none

JV: vs. Santa Margarita at Tijeras Creek S. Margarita – 211 SJB – 303

Par 36 Tijeras Creek is tough and we were missing a couple players so we really struggled here. Daniel Liu led the way at 14 over par.

Alexander-66, Catzalco-62, Kim-62, Lacey-63, Liu-50, Sandstrom-66

FS: vs. Santa Margarita at Los Amigos S. Margarita – 235 SJB – 282

Another struggle as our new, young players are still figuring things out. Michael had a decent round at 13 over but this was definitely not our best day.

Carrillo, DeJesus, Medina, Moreno, Ruiz, Smith, Salas

Tuesday, 3/14:

Varsity: in Linfield Christian Tournament at Cross Creek 6th out of 8 teams

Our first tournament of the season at a very beautiful but difficult course in Temecula with lots of environmental hazards. Par was 71 and all teams struggled.

Aguilar-101, Bernal-97, Cabot-96, Flores-101, Marshall-112, Munoz-103

Wednesday, 3/15:

Varsity: vs. Cerritos at Lakewood Cerritos – 195 SJB – 224

This was supposed to be an 18 hole match but they did not have us on the tee sheet so we had to start late and only got in 9 holes. It was our best score of the season – 44 over par as a team. Marcus and Nick had their best rounds of the season, Ivan tied his best and Brian had his best as well, breaking 50 for the first time. Good job, fellas.

Aguilar-43, Bernal-45, Cabot-41, Flores-48, Marshall-47, Munoz-48

JV: vs. Mater Dei at Los Amigos Mater Dei – 203 SJB – 245

We improved a bit in this one. Zach and Julian had their best rounds of the season and this was our best JV team score so far.

Alexander-13, Barcenas-17, Barrera-73, Catzalco-67, Kim-48, Liu-48, Sandstrom-47

FS: vs. Mater Dei at David L. Baker Mater Dei – 209 SJB – 235

At par 31 Baker we did okay but not great. Tommy, Drake, Valley, and Gilbert had their best rounds of the young season

DeJesus-46, Fierro-50, Jativa-47, Lin-48, Medina-55, Ruiz-44, Salas-55

Thursday, 3/16:

JV: vs. Servite at Western Hills – 3:05 Servite – 197 SJB – 264

This is a really difficult par 35 course in Chino Hills so this may have been our best round of the season. It was made even more difficult by the fact that a number of our players got sick and some others could not make it for other reasons so we only had the bare minimum of 5 players for the match. BIG KUDOS to Matt Ruiz who came up literally at the last minute from FS and then shot a 6 over par which is the best round of the season by any Brave at that course. Daniel Liu also played well at 11 over and the others did well as also. Good job for hanging in there.

Alexander-56, Lacey-65, Liu-46, Ruiz-41, Sandstrom-56

FS: vs. Mayfair at Heartwell Mayfair – 192 SJB – 202

Pitch and putt Heartwell is par 27 and we did okay. Unfortunately we lost a couple players due to illness and one moving up to JV. Diego, Michael, Tommy, and Valley had their lowest scores of the season but Mayfair played a bit better and gave us payback for beating them last week. Special thank you to Valley for stepping in at the last minute and helping out.

Carrillo-44, DeJesus-32, Fierro-44, Jativa-45, Lin-37, Medina-47
