St. John Bosco High School

June 21, 2017

Dear St. John Bosco High School community,

After due deliberation and extensive consultation, I am pleased to inform you that I have asked Dr. Christian De Larkin to assume the position of Principal effective July 1 and he has accepted.  We had several very strong candidates, both internal and external, but I believe Christian is the best choice for Bosco.  As you no doubt know, working with Casey Yeazel and the faculty he has been instrumental in the academic changes and improvements our school has experienced over the past several years, as well as in helping to conceive and implement our highly successful Pathway programs. In fact, Christian is a leader in Catholic higher education both nationally and in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the field of academic innovation, which I believe continues to be essential for the future of Bosco. At the same time, he has a deep understanding of, and affinity for, Catholic education and he fully embraces our Salesian model, charism and family spirit which will always be such an essential component of who we are as an institution.  In fact, Salesian values are the bedrock of everything else we do here.  In this respect, he is fully committed – as am I – to partnering with the faculty and to consulting with parents on the academic mission and programs of the school, and will consult widely and frequently as we move forward.  Christian holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Loyola Marymount University.

Christian is not new to a Principal's role having served as President/Principal at Serra High School in Gardena before coming to Bosco in 2014. I am excited and energized by his vision, enthusiasm and commitment to our school and its faculty and students.  I know we will all enjoy working with him in his new role as Principal succeeding Casey Yeazel, who did such an outstanding job over his five years here.

Below is a letter from Dr. De Larkin expressing his enthusiasm for the role he has assumed, and for working in close collaboration with all of you.

Thank you to all of you who participated in the search process. I believe this process was very open, collaborative, transparent and fair.  All constituencies of our school were actively involved: Corporation and Board members, faculty, staff, parents and students. I have received a lot of positive feedback about the process.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.  I look forward to seeing everyone in August, if not before.

In Don Bosco,

President Mulhaupt

Dennis Mulhaupt

President
St. John Bosco High School

Salesian College Preparatory

I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as the next Principal of St. John Bosco High School and am grateful to the Salesians of Don Bosco for their unwavering support of our school community. I look forward to serving alongside President Dennis Mulhaupt, Director Father Nick Reina, and our dedicated administration, faculty, staff, coaches, and counselors as we accompany our students on their formative journey into men of faith, intellect, leadership, and citizenship. Ultimately we strive to lead young men to live a life modeled after Jesus Christ.

I am committed to seeing our school continue its growth as a faith-filled place where all students strive for excellence both inside and outside of the classroom. My educational vision for our school is guided by the key pillars of the Salesian preventive system: establishing relationships based on trust; leading our young men to project themselves in the future as witnesses of hope; and learning to live together among young people and with adults by building an alliance with them.

The St. John Bosco High School community is blessed in many ways: by the profound level of talent and expertise among our faculty and staff; by a culture that blends tradition and innovative growth, allowing us to hold on to our traditions while we adapt to meet the changing needs of our students; by thriving programs that serve in the holistic formation of every student and have become benchmarks by which other schools in the Archdiocese are now measuring themselves; and most critically, by our dedicated parents, who understand sacrifice and entrust us with the privilege of educating their sons.

I ask for your prayers, your faith, and your partnership as we use reason, religion, and loving kindness to lead our students toward discovering how their talents meet the emerging needs of a changing world.

As Principal, I recognize the responsibility and privilege I have, and I am committed to serving you, under the direction of the President and the Salesians of Don Bosco, in the best interest of our young men.

Sincerely,

Dr. De Larkin
