Principal's Bulletin

Ticket sales begin Monday, September 11!

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to the Honor Roll Recipients

Honor Roll (3.0-3.49), High Honor Roll (3.5-3.99), and Principal's Honor Roll (4.0-5.0) students were recognized in our Spring 2017 Honor Roll Assembly.  Congratulations to all students who made it!  High school grades have great meaning and have become the currency high school students earn through their sacrifice and trust in this process of schooling. At Bosco, we see strong grades as one marker of student success.  They are not the only indication of the Bosco man. It is important though to recognize students who do perform at the highest levels in the classroom and view their success as a reminder of how this accomplishment represents their faith in themselves as young scholars and in our faculty as their guides, their integrity in the work they produce, their leadership in their classes as driven students, and their citizenship as stewards of service who value the worth education in our country.

Honor Roll

Fall Sports Underway!

Congratulations to our football program for earning a win in our first "home" game at El Camino College versus Chaminade College Prep. Well done to our running Braves for their success in the Cool Breeze Invite. This weekend, keep our Water Polo and Hockey teams in your prayers for safe and successful games!

Go Braves!

Students Using Uber

Ride sharing services such as Uber and Lyft are increasingly being used by parents to transport their children to and from school events. Although this is extremely convenient, we want you to be aware of a few things. First, both Uber and Lyft share the same policy: individuals are not allowed to have an account with Uber unless they are 18 or older, but the companies are relaxed in enforcing this rule. This policy could aim to protect Uber in some circumstances. There is currently no law against minors riding in taxis. We have seen several students calling Uber from Bosco and hope that the following article will help promote safety. The safest thing to do is to refrain from this practice.

Get Involved

Mock Trial & Parent Volunteers

We are excited for this year's Mock Trial team led by Mr. Weiglin. We have 25 students ready to litigate this year's murder case. Click here to access the case.  We are looking for any parents or friends of Bosco with related experiences (law, trial, etc.) to volunteer their time over the next few months to help our students prepare for trial.  Please let Mr. Weiglin know at bweiglin@bosco.org! This is a great way to earn service hours and help our students take home this year's first place trophy!

Homeboy Industries 5K - Bosco & Saint Joseph Service Opportunity
We are teaming up again with Saint Joseph High School to participate in the Homeboy Industries 5k Walk/Run. Homeboy Industries is an organization founded by Fr. Greg Boyle that provides hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community.

The 5k takes place on Saturday, September 23 right outside their Headquarters and Cafe in Downtown LA.  To register on our team, click here, create an account and search "Saint Joseph / Saint John Bosco" under Team Registration. If you cannot make it but would like to donate, you may also do so online, as well. Students will be able to earn Christian Service hours for participating in the event.

Week Ahead

Triduum Week

This upcoming week September 11-15 is our three part experience in which as a school community we gather and reflect on our Journey as a Brave Family. Every year as a Salesian family we focus on the Strenna (Theme of the year). This year our strenna is "As a BRAVE Family, let us listen and walk together on our journey." This week we will start with a presentation on Tuesday, Reconciliation on Tuesday to Thursday in each Religion Class, and ending with a Mass on Friday celebrated by Archbishop Gomez of Los Angeles. Reminder that all students are to be in formal attire for Friday's celebration of mass.
