Principal's Bulletin

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support and understanding with the recent event related to school safety.  The Educator's School Safety Network finds that around 10 school-based threats and incidents were reported per day prior to the February 14 tragedy. Since Parkland, they have tracked more than 800 incidents.  In light of this, we decided to implement the following action items to immediately help enhance the safety for the Bosco family during school hours:

  • Upgrade our campus check process
    • Install an electronic lock, intercom, and buzzer system at the main school entrance
    • Require campus visitors to scan ID cards
  • Conduct lock down/active shooter drills before the end of the semester
  • Consult with local law enforcement to review existing campus safety protocols

We have enjoyed a safe and secure school for many years but understand that there is more we can do to increase the sense of security in the community.  In addition to the above action items, we will be conducting a longer term review of our security staffing needs, campus perimeter security, and after school hours procedures and protocols.

Annual Gala Service Hour Opportunity

Our Annual Gala is right around the corner and with the service hour deadline fast approaching, the planning committee wanted to share with you an option to complete your hours by supporting the Braves Gala Silent Auction.

We are in need of $25 dollar gift cards from the following: Best Buy, Smart & Final, Costco, Total Wine & More or Visa Gift Cards in exchange for two service hours for every $25 dollars spent – normal buyout is $22 per service hour. Please turn gift cards into to (Amy Krisch room 201) and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! If you would like to attend or volunteer (hours would go towards the 2018/19 school year) at the event you can register here.

Thank you so much for your continued support of SJB! Go Braves!

How Is My Son's Mental Well-Being?

Just a friendly reminder - Tomorrow Monday, 12 March 2018, The Parent Association (PA) is sponsoring a Mental Health and Wellness Talk to raise awareness about the needs and issues our students face on a daily basis. Let's learn to improve communication and provide intervention and guidance.

Our speaker, Monica Taylor Dessert is the co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of Counseling Partners of Los Angeles, a non-profit corporation providing critically needed, affordable counseling and support services to over 20 schools in Los Angeles. She's a licensed marriage and family therapist with a Degree in Psychology and Economics (UCLA) and Masters in Counseling (CSUN).

This event is too good to miss!  Highly recommended to have both parents and students attend.

Note:  2 Service hours will be given to the attendee.

Social starts at 6:00 pm, meeting starts at 6:30 pm.

Mid Semester Break

This Friday March 16, and Monday March 19 will serve as our Mid Semester Break.  All mid semester assessments will have been completed by March 15 and your son's mid semester grades will be updated by March 20.  If your son missed any of his midterms, he should reschedule with his instructor as soon as he returns to school.  We encourage you and your son(s) to attend parent teacher conferences on Monday, March 26 to discuss any questions you may have about how to finish this semester off strong.

Course Selection for Next School Year

It's that time of year again! Course selections are currently active in PowerSchool.  We encourage you to meet with your son and complete the online course requests as soon as possible together.  Click here for a step by step video to guide you through the process.  Please view the course catalog here or on the Daily Bulletin in PowerSchool. Students can see what classes they need, what courses we offer, and what the new ones are! Parents should sign the paper forms (given to your students on March 2) and students should complete the online submission by Friday, March 23. Petitions to enter a class are due by Wednesday, March 14 to the department lead (forms are available in the counseling office or here).

Thank you for your support and trust in us.

In the Spirit of Don Bosco,

Dr. De Larkin
