Welcome to the 2018-2019 Academic School Year!

It has been an historic summer for the St. John Bosco community. Over the summer, Bosco Braves have participated in several unique and meaningful learning experiences.  Our engineering scholars are in their last week of a 10-week Product Design Challenge Internship at Pelican Inc. Our traveling Braves spent 10 days in Japan and China as exchange students to experience a brand new culture. Our Academic Decathlon team traveled to Barcelona to compete in the Global Round of the World Scholars' Cup and scored in the top 10%, which qualified them for the Tournament of Champions at Yale in November. Our student leadership team traveled to Aptos, CA to participate in the Salesian Youth Leadership Conference (SYLC) with the Salesian High Schools in the Western Province of the USA to develop, plan, and reflect on creating meaningful student life experiences for our school. It is truly an amazing time to be a Brave.

Thank you to all of you who attended the opening of Panish Family Stadium. Over 1,000 people joined together to celebrate the completion of the largest capital project in the school's history. It will be a blessing to be able to host games at home again!  Mark your calendars for August 17.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with a special pregame.

This year will be better than ever.  We are excited to welcome back students this week, especially our newest Braves, the 240 members of the class of 2022! It has been a blessing to meet many new freshmen this summer and we are looking forward to discovering their many talents as the year unfolds. We are also excited to introduce new programs and services for students: an internship experience for our Sports Medicine Pathway students; on campus dual college credit courses; two new courses to launch the Computer Science Pathway, an additional academic counselor to provide targeted college & career counseling services, and increased staffing to lead student activities, leadership, clubs, and campus ministry.  Finally, we are excited to announce that Don Bosco's 10th successor, Father Ángel Fernández Artime, the Rector Major of our religious order, the Salesians of Don Bosco will be visiting the United States in September. His visit will include St. John Bosco High School on September 17! More to come on this special occasion.

As we prepare for the first week of school, please keep the following in mind:

Schedules

  • All students' schedules are available on PowerSchool as of Tuesday, August 7; here students can see the room locations and the period for each course they are taking. For further assistance with course schedules, please visit the Counseling Office between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, or contact your son's counselor:
  • All changes and adjustments to a student's class schedule are handled by the student's Academic Counselor.  All class change requests, for both the first and second semesters, must be made by August 17. Changes cannot be made based on teacher preference. No course may be dropped after these changes are made.
  • Please ask your son to download and sign into the PowerSchool App on his phone before August 10 so he can find all of his classes.

Course Textbooks, Resources & Materials

Click here to access a list of the required course materials. We understand that some course resources may take several days to arrive; we are allowing a grace period through August 17 for students to acquire all necessary course materials. Please direct all inquiries regarding course materials to your son's instructor.

Service Hour Update

We are excited to announce that starting with this 2018-19 school year, we will begin using Track it Forward for tracking volunteer hours. Only hours that are logged through this platform will count towards parent service hour requirements. Through your volunteer dashboard you will have the ability to log hours, view your total hours submitted, milestone progress, sign up for events and more. You will be receiving an invitation very soon from Track it Forward with instructions to complete your profile and set up your password.

Thank you again for your support and trust in us. We are excited to share the 2018-2019 academic year journey with you.
