May 13, 2020 Principal Bulletin: May 13, 2020 Dear St. John Bosco High School Parents & Students,
I pray this email finds you and your loved ones in good health. We ask for the Bosco community to continue to pray for all those affected by COVID-19 as well as those affected by the financial impacts of the quarantine.
Last Friday, we hosted Senior Exit Interviews. These interviews are a yearly tradition that allow for all seniors to reflect on their growth as a man of faith, intellect, citizenship, and leadership. Over 60 community members along with our entire faculty and staff participated in the first ever Zoom Senior Exit Interviews. This experience was one of the highlights of the last few months during quarantine. Each senior created a short narrated video as a part of their portfolios. Take a look at Matthew Reynolds' video submission to bring some joy to your day.
Last week's bulletin outlined our approach to grading, signature assignments, and final assessments. The following are reminders and information to help facilitate the end of academic coursework for the spring semester. We appreciate everyone's flexibility and understanding with the AP Exam and Final Assessment approaches taken this year and will do our best to support students' through this time.
AP Exam Attendance Students taking AP exams will be excused from class on the day of their AP exam including during finals week. Students will have time to make what was missed including a missed final assessment. Their excused absence will also be noted on their PowerSchool attendance page.
Final assessments will occur on the scheduled date and times listed on Brave Calendar, Schoology, and the Remote Learning Schedule. If courses are giving final projects as their last assessment, they are to be due on the day and time of the scheduled final, and not earlier. This is to help students balance their workload.
In the event a student misses a synchronous final assessment/presentation on the week of finals, there will be a scheduled make up day the following week. Please note that only the students who miss the final due to an AP exam or have a school-approved excused absence (as stated in the Student-Parent Guide) are allowed to take their final on a make up day.
Family Education Rights and Privacy Act Consent Needed (Grades 9-11) Throughout your son's academic career, St. John Bosco High School will receive educational record requests on possible consideration for admissions or athletic eligibility to any college/university.
Looking Ahead Summer School operations are close to being finalized. Stay tuned for an update on summer programs in the next bulletin.
Your input is important! A survey will be sent out soon to obtain parents' and students' experiences with St. John Bosco High School during COVID-19 in order to help inform our school's operations for the Fall semester. Our goal is to return to campus when safe this fall with updated plans to facilitate a quality Bosco education in compliance with necessary safety measures that may include some shifts in our educational model. We ask for you to please complete the survey to help inform our planning. Senior Farewell A Virtual Senior Farewell for the Class of 2020 will be hosted on May 23 at 10:00 am. All students and parents from every grade level are invited to celebrate this historic class in this live streamed event. The joining info will be shared next week.
