Ice Hockey

St. John Bosco has a long tradition of building athletic legacies.

The St. John Bosco Hockey Program started competing during the 2012-2015 school year. The team won the Division III High School Varsity Championship their second year in existence. They moved up to Division II and in 2017 & 2020, they won the Division II Title and won bronze at the High School National Championship. During the 2021-2022 season, the Varsity Team was runner-up for the Divison I Title.

St. John Bosco competes in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (ADHSL). High school hockey in California is building its prestige and attracting the best players from all over the state. ADSHL has created three distinct divisions players can be a part of depending on what high school program or territory they belong to. Players can play both travel AAA, AA or A/B hockey and enjoy the high school hockey environment as well.

About Us

Home Ice Advantage

Ice time for hockey in Southern California is at a premium. Most of the time when you can find ice you are relegated to sharing or splitting the ice surface at odd times of the day or night. We have the HOME ice advantage!

Paramount Iceland, where the Zamboni Ice Resurfacer was invented, is Bosco Hockey's home ice. Our practices are right down the road from campus with convenient bus service to practice from St. John Bosco.

Practices and games are aligned in a way that allows our players to continue club and travel play. Our skaters get one-on-one attention from our superior coaching staff. In addition to the Bosco Hockey Program there are opportunities to skate with the Reign Organization, and additional 4-on-4, practice, clinics, and tournament play is offered at Icetown Riverside and Carlsbad.

Foreign Exchange Program

We have hosted skaters from the Czech Republic and look to build the opportunity to bring more international skaters into our program. This creates a second-to-none experience for the exchange student, host families and players. No other high school hockey program creates this unique experience. Our athletes build friendships and learn of other cultures first hand. This goes beyond hockey forging lifelong friendships.

Men of Service

We believe it's important to teach our student-athletes about more than just hockey. Bosco Hockey players are taught to give back and complete at least one Service Project each season. In 2020 our players donated their time and collected resources for Laura’s House, a non-profit organization offering counseling, shelter and services for victims of domestic violence.

Program History

The St. John Bosco Hockey Program started two years ago in the 2014-15 season. The team won the Junior Varsity regular season competition the first year and the Division III High School Varsity championship the second year of its existence. This year the St. John Bosco team plays at Junior Varsity and Division II Varsity competition and both teams have very respectable results.

St. John Bosco's Hockey Program directly supports the combination of high school and travel Programs by scheduling high school practices around the travel team practices and building the travel game schedule around the high school schedule, allowing our student-athletes to experience the best of both worlds.

Tomas Kapusta has an impressive pedigree filled with numerous achievements including: 1985 Silver Medal at the World Junior Championship in Finland; 1987 Silver Medal at the World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic; 1989-1992 as and Edmonton Oilers draft pick playing for Edmonton’s AHL team Cape Breton Oilers; 1993 Bronze Medal at World Championships in Germany and 1994 Olympic Games, Lillehammer, Norway, both playing for the Czech National Team, 1993 Scoring Champion in the Elite Finnish League.
