Mario "Moon" Cordero '97

Mario "Moon" Cordero '97

A lifelong Long Beach native, Mario “Moon” Cordero ’97 found his calling right where it all began — at St. John Bosco High School. After graduating from Bosco, Moon earned his B.A. in Urban Studies from Loyola Marymount University and a teaching credential from Cal State Long Beach. For 20 years, he served as a teacher and coach at his alma mater, shaping generations of Braves with the same Salesian spirit that once shaped him. Guided by faith, family, and his belief in the goodness of every young person, Moon continues to live out the values he learned at Bosco — integrity, compassion, and purpose.

As a husband, father, and man of faith, he continues to embody Don Bosco’s call to accompany others with reason, religion, and loving kindness. He believes deeply in making Catholic education accessible for all families and knows firsthand how the Annual Fund helps keep that mission alive. “For the boys, only the best,” as the legendary Mr. John Gonzales would say — a legacy Moon carries with him always.

Robert Mateo Rubio '88

Robert Mateo Rubio '88

Raised in a big, faith-filled family in Cerritos, Robert “Mateo” Rubio ’88 followed four of his brothers to St. John Bosco High School, continuing a proud family tradition rooted in Salesian education. While at Bosco, Mateo discovered his love for community, leadership, and service through Key Club, student government, and drama. Those formative experiences, along with the lessons of faith and brotherhood instilled by the Salesians, inspired a lifelong commitment to justice, faith, and community uplift. After graduating, he went on to earn a degree in History with a minor in Latin American Studies from UC San Diego and later worked with UCLA’s Department of Urban Planning, focusing on community redevelopment and advocacy for communities of color.

Today, Mateo owns and operates Casa Victoria Los Angeles, a vintage furniture business that serves the television, film, and design industries. Beyond his work, he remains deeply involved in his Leimert Park community — championing neighborhood beautification, environmental justice, and social equity. For Mateo, Bosco is where he first learned that faith and service go hand in hand. He continues to give back so that future generations of Braves, regardless of background, can experience the same transformative education and sense of belonging that shaped his own life.

Brady Spak '26

Brady Spak '26

A leader, innovator, and proud Brave, Brady Spak ’26 has spent his time at Bosco immersed in a world of creativity, leadership, and discovery. As Co-Captain and Programming Lead of Tribe Robotics, Brady found his passion for turning code into motion — a spark that inspired his dream of pursuing a career in robotics or computer engineering. Beyond robotics, he serves as Executive Board President of ASB, Varsity Captain of the Lacrosse Team, Retreat Coordinator in Campus Ministry, and a dedicated photographer for Bosco Football — embodying the spirit of a well-rounded, mission-driven young man.

Through Bosco’s Computer Science Pathway, Brady learned not only how to build and innovate but also how to lead with purpose and faith. Whether organizing retreats, mentoring teammates, or co-founding Bosco’s CyberBrave Cybersecurity Team, he brings the Salesian values of reason, religion, and loving kindness into everything he does. As he looks ahead to college — with aspirations that include Stanford, UC Berkeley, UT Austin, Michigan, or UCLA — Brady carries with him the brotherhood, confidence, and curiosity that define a true Brave.

Milton Carter '26

Milton Carter '26

When Milton arrived at Bosco, he was quiet, unsure, and often felt out of place. But here, he found a home. He found a community that helped him come out of his shell, build meaningful connections, and develop the people skills that shaped his confidence and sense of self.

Because of Bosco’s strong academic foundation, Milton found a passion for engineering. Joining the Engineering Pathway as a sophomore opened his eyes to a future he never imagined, giving him hands-on experience and the skills that spark his curiosity and drive.

His faith also deepened at Bosco. Milton learned to feel safe talking about God, praying openly, and integrating faith into his daily life.

And because of athletics at Bosco, Milton had the freedom to break stereotypes and explore new opportunities. Instead of being boxed into what the world expected of him, he discovered wrestling and track & field — sports that challenged him, empowered him, and expanded his college opportunities as he works toward becoming a Division I athlete.

For Milton, Bosco isn’t just a school, it’s the place that helped him grow into the young man he is today and the one he’s becoming. Because of Bosco, he found his voice, his faith, his path, and his confidence.

Isaiah Maciel '27

As a member of our Engineering Pathway and the Bosco Football program, Isaiah is diving deep into two of the things he loves most: hands-on learning and competitive athletics. Whether he’s problem-solving in the classroom or pushing himself on the field, Isaiah brings determination, curiosity, and heart to everything he does.

But his favorite part of Bosco? The brotherhood. For Isaiah, it’s the friendships, the support, and the feeling that you’re never walking alone that make this place truly special. We can’t wait to see where his journey takes him.

Declan Crans '29

As a freshman, Declan has jumped right into campus life, representing Bosco proudly as a member of the Water Polo Team and our Student Ambassador Program. Even in just a few months, he says Bosco has already made a meaningful impact on him — a place where he feels supported, welcomed, and part of a true family.

With his drive, leadership, and heart, we know this is only the beginning. We can’t wait to see all that Declan will do and become during his years at Bosco.
